Adaptive Reuse of Historic Buildings and Sustainable New Builds

Studio Can23 is a London-based design studio working holistically across architecture and interior design. Specialising in the adaptive reuse of historic buildings and sustainable new builds – many within sensitive locations – our approach is gentle, imaginative, and inherently pragmatic. Focused on the fundamental question of what it means to inhabit a space today, we devise flexible systems and well-crafted details to make, refurbish, and furnish spaces that feel good and function beautifully.

Ioana Bereza - Principle

Inspiration, Influence and Shaping Architectural Understanding

Ioana studied architecture at the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London, completing both her undergraduate and master’s degrees before gaining her RIBA Part III qualification at the University of Westminster. She has worked at several award-winning practices, including Cottrell & Vermeulen Architecture, Proctor & Matthews Architects, and Squire & Partners, contributing to projects across education, high-end residential, and large-scale masterplanning.

She founded Studio Can23 in 2019. Named in tribute to her grandparents’ self-built home in rural Transylvania, where she spent her early childhood, the practice reflects a commitment to architecture that is thoughtful, personal, and enduring.

Outside of her practice, Ioana co-runs the SaLADS Collective, which organises architectural tours around the UK to promote public access to and engagement with design. She lives and works in South London with her partner and their three daughters.

Disclosures of your personal data

We may share your personal data with the following third parties:

External third parties.

  • Service providers acting as processors who provide IT and system administration services, including Managed WordPress Hosting services for our Website, email delivery and administration, and data storage and analysis.
  • Our professional advisors based in the United Kingdom including lawyers, auditors, insurers and consultants who provide legal, accounting, insurance and other relevant services.
  • Third parties to whom we may choose to sell, transfer or merge parts of our business or our assets. Alternatively, we may seek to acquire other businesses or merge with them. If a change happens to our business, then the new owners may use your personal data in the same way as set out in this privacy notice.
  • HM Revenue and Customs, regulators, law enforcement, public authorities or other third parties acting as controllers based in the UK where necessary to exercise our rights or comply with a legal obligation.

International transfers

We may transfer, store and process your personal data outside the EEA. More detail can be found below.

Although Studio Can23 is based in the UK, some third-party providers, cloud services or analytics platforms may operate servers or subcontractors outside the UK and EEA.  Whenever transferring your personal data out of the UK or EEA, we ensure a similar degree of protection is afforded to it as under UK GDPR by ensuring at least one of the following safeguards is implemented:

  • We will only transfer your personal data to countries that have been deemed to provide an adequate level of protection for personal data.
  • Where we use certain service providers located outside the UK or EEA we use specific contracts approved by the UK which give personal data the same protection it has in the UK and EEA.

Data security
All information you provide to us is stored on our secure servers located in the UK or EEA. Once we have received your information, we will use strict procedures and security features to try to prevent your personal data from being accidentally lost, used or accessed in an unauthorised way.

We have put in place procedures to deal with any suspected personal data breach and will notify you and any applicable regulator when we are legally required to do so.


Data retention

By law we have to keep basic information about our customers (including Contact, Identity, Financial and Transaction Data) for six years after they cease being customers for tax purposes.

Once we no longer have a legal right to hold your personal data, we will delete or, in some circumstances, we will anonymise your personal data (so that it can no longer be associated with you) for research or statistical purposes, in which case we may use this information indefinitely without further notice to you.

You have the following rights under data protection laws in relation to your personal data.

  • Request access to and/or a copy of the personal data we process about you (commonly known as a data subject access request). This enables you to check that we are lawfully processing it.
